The Robin Hood of Poker

Barry Greenstein has been nicknamed the "Robin Hood of Poker" due to the fact that he donates 100% of his tournament earnings to charity. Most of it goes to Children Incorporated, an organization which sponsors some 15,000 children in 21 countries.

Barry came was born on December 30, 1954 and he was raised in Chicago. He learned poker at a young age from his father who was a known poker player while he was serving in the Army.

Among his many accomplishments were winning Larry Flynt’s $1 million one-table stud event at Hustler Casino, and bagging $100,815 in the $500 No-Limit Hold’em event at Commerce Casino’s California State Poker Championship.

Fun Facts:

  • Has 2 World Series Of Poker Bracelets.
  • Barry Greenstein taught his long-time girlfriend Mimi Tran how to play poker in exchange for her teaching him how to speak Vietnamese.
  • Developed his own software before the age of 15.
  • At age 13 he could make $30 to $50 a night playing poker in home games.

I agree Rod! Donating 100% of his tournament winnings to charity is something most wouldn't do. Hey come across as a very friendly person at the table too. He doesn't trash talk or anything like that. He even gives out signed copies of his book when he get's knocked out by someone - At least he used to I'm not sure if he still does that or not.

Wouldn't that be something if he won the World Series of Poker main event and donated it all to charity? It kind of makes you want to cheer him all the way to the WSOP final table.
