RIP Chip Reese - 1951-2007
David Edward "Chip" Reese was born March 28, 1951 and sadly passed away December 4, 2007. He is survived by his ex-wife, son, daughter, and stepdaughter.
Chip is thought of as the best high stakes cash game player in the world. After Chip's death Doyle Brunson stated, "He's certainly the best poker player that ever lived." He hasn't earned as much as other players and only has 3 World Series of Poker Bracelets, but his expertise and experience in poker have earned him respect.
At the 2006 World Series of Poker, Chip Reese won the inaugural $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, taking home the $1,716,000 first prize. Chip beat out 143 other men and women who had paid the $50,000 tournament buy-in. The tournament ended with a twelve-hour standoff between Reese and Andy Bloch.
Reese was born in Dayton, Ohio. When he was young he used to play poker using baseball cards as currency and he noticed he also had a talent for gin rummy and backgammon. Chip brought his gambling skills to Dartmouth College, where he got his degree in economics. The card room at his fraternity house was called the David E. Reese Memorial Card Room in his honor.
