Martin "The Knife" de Knijff
Martin "The Knife" de Knijff was born on October 2, 1972 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Martin and his family moved to Falkenberg when he was 5 years old. Sadly, shortly after that Martin's father fell ill and pass away which was pretty hard on him, as it would be for anybody.
Poker wasn't where Martin enjoyed his first successes. He was a pretty good bridge player. Martin became the youngest to receive bridge Life Master status in Sweden at only 21 years of age.
Martin transitioned well into poker and he took a 13th place finish and $60,000 in the 2002 World Series of Poker Main Event.
Martin finished 15th in the World Poker Tour series 1 championship where he won $26,664. The following year he went on to win the same tournament and a then record breaking $2,728,356.
The following month at the 2004 WSOP, his success continued with a 2nd place finish in the $5,000 No Limit Hold-Em event winning $210,100.
In 2005, Martin de Knijff wrote an article for Card Player magazine where he encouraged tournament backers to reveal themselves and it was met with mixed reactions from poker professionals.
