I enjoy a few (small) vodkas and Lucozade (this is my secret weapon) when playing a friendly poker game. I have an optimal range where I play really well UNTIL I drink too much and my rash descisions cost me!

I've seen friends of mine win the tournament whilst being both blind drunk and as sober as a judge (if you can say that these days).

    Any preferences?
    thanks,
    Rodney

Personally I am a bit of an oddity in that I rarely drink at all. But I study drinkers with great regularity...lol I have many friends and I have watched them and I have found I can tell how much they have had to drink just by how they are playing.

Most of them are much tighter when they are sober and they get looser or more aggressive the more they drink. For some of them they are tight/aggressive when sober and just loosen up but stay agressive. some are just tight and they become more agressive as they drink but they stay tight. Then there are those that are just tight and get both loose and aggressive as the alcohol intake goes up. If you play with these kinds of people you need to learn to identify them, because the the guy that stays tight but becomes more agressive as he drinks is the dangerous one. The agressive play can appear to be loose play when it's not, so you think he's drunk and playing dumb and he'll clean your clock.

I enjoy the game much more with a few drinks in me.  I generally stick to drinking beer so that I do not get too drunk and make really stupid decisions...However I have actually won lots of money before when I was way too intoxicated.  But to answer your question - yes I drink when playing poker but only beer - no liquor for me as I get stupid when that happens.

I like to have a few drinks when I am playing. It just makes it more fun. It doesn't make me any more careless or makes me give up good hands because of it. I am not a beer drinker and only drink sweet liquors maybe mixed with cola or juice. I have won both sober and slightly buzzed. If I ever get really drunk I can give it up on winning.

What's a poker game without beer?  When I play in person either with friends or other organized games I always have to have a minimum of a 6-pack of beer.  I usually have closer to a 12 pack before the night's over though :)  Alcohol really doesn't make my game any worse - I often use the fact that I have had lots to my advantage when playing with new people.  I am often able to make them think I am just making drunk bets and in reality I can just hold my alcohol really well & I am trying to win some money!

I like a drink now and then myself, but when I am playing poker I like to be careful about how much I drink. If I have too much I don't keep track of things as well as I should and I tend to make stupid mistakes. Sometimes we do get a bunch of people together strictly to play for fun - we just have a party and toss cards and chips around. These games have no money involved so none of us has anything to lose.

I have to drink when I play. With my friends it is almost an requirement. I am a beer drinker all the way and can go through a 6 pack in no time and have to get more. I hold my alcohol really well so I have no trouble with it affecting my game at all. Infact I have used it to my advantage in many games before. They always underestimate the "drunk" haha. They still haven't caught on to me yet.

For us, a little good sipping whiskey is a part of the game, but we are pretty much sippers rather than real drinkers.  There's really no one in our weekly game who is a heavy drinker (unless it's been a bad week, and we all have those sometimes!) so it's rare that anyone starts playing out of character.

When I used to drink a lot I would always play with a Jack and Coke by myside.  I don't know why exactly but that was my drink of choice.  In all honestly sometimes I think I played better when I loosened up a little bit.  I wasn't as afraid to call people if I thought they were bluffing.  But, it didn't happen like this all the time though, lol.

One night I went through about 40 dollars in three minutes while my friends gathered around and laughed at me.  Now, 40 doesn't seem like a lot, but when your whole bankroll at the time was 100 dollars and you got that up from an initial 20 dollars, it sort of pisses you off.  I don't really play as much online as I used to, but, now I never drink.  It's not because of poker or anything, it's just my own personal decision.

I don't drink much at all lately as I recently had a baby and now I am nursing.

When I get together with friends to play poker though we never play for money so it wouldn't matter if I drank or not.  I think it would be fun to play for a bit of cash sometime but I would have to find the right people to play with.  The people I play with now play just for fun and would never play for money.

You'll never see me drinking while playing live poker. I wouldn't do anything that would mess my play.

I only drink during games with my friends for small amounts of cash, not that I care but shouldn't this thread be in the etiquette section. I just don't drink because I don't want to lose my concentration. the most important of all, I enjoyed the game plus I made money. And I'm having fun.

I never drink when I'm playing poker.  As I am just learning the game, I like to keep a clear head about me at all time.  After all, after two beer I'm pretty tipsy as it is. lol

I drink during the game. Most of the time I will make one can of beer last for a while. We make sure we offer drinks at home games. There is always atleast one person who is going to drink way too much and do something silly with their hand. It just makes it a more relaxed game when everyone is enjoying themselves.

While I don't drink myself, I do encourage those around me to drink.  It seems the more relaxed everyone gets, the easier they are to read.

I like to have a couple beers or mixed drinks while I play.  It is a way for me to unwind on the weekends after a long stressful week of housework, working, and taking care of a newborn.  I also like to eat a lot of food!  You all must think I am fat.

I drink beer sometimes but I am more of a mixed drink person. I like to have a few drinks. It makes me relax a little more and just enjoy it. I never drink enough to get drunk just lightly buzzed. I can tell when I am having too many when I start to make dumb mistakes playing.

We will drink as long as the kids are asleep or the kids are staying the night out.  We usually make margaritas and have some cold beer on ice.  We drink corona or bud light.  I like playing with a buzz.  It is fun that way.  Especially if everyone is drinking.

I have a rule at my house that when it's ladies only we can drink but the men play they never can. Not at my house.
