I was wondering whether tournament style games with prizes as opposed to cash games were considered the same by US states that have made home gambling illegal.  Does anyone know?

For me it sounds like its totaly illegal for home game in any conditions. Even tourneys. As a former Mili.Police sgt. I see the law has covered both sides of gambling. Tourneys vs Cash game seems to be considderated as gambling.

I would get offended if people gambled at home as well considering the fact that they spend millions of dollars on boats just for you to waste your money on. So I understand but I think that alot of people are going to run into a lot of problems having access to online gambling now.

i think it would ruin poker a little but i think the offline games would not get damaged at all the only reason the united states don't legalize it is the big corperations  so i heard and they are dumb and can't figure out a way to tax it

I think there would be more people playing poker at home games if there was a big crackdown on online poker. I know for US players they have been shut out of online poker. I'm not sure they can really come after the home games, unless you have some big get together that is advertised. They are not going to have the resources to crack down on home poker games, even if they wanted to.

I think if they stop the online gambling in us, alot of ppl will be out of money and since its illegal most will prolly start complaining. But for now i dont think that will happen yet, im just going to enjoy the poker i play, hope that dont happens.

i think the home games would pop up everywhere. I play in two a week now. I know I can get into 4 a week if I have time. so 7 days a week...maybe.

I read the complete text of the law that is currently working it's way through congress. The main idea of this law is to make banks and internet providers do the enforcement of an online prohibition. This latest arrest is intended to scare the owners of offshore casinos and poker rooms into stopping US patrons from playing. At least as far as online is concerned.

The really sad thing is that if you read it there are so many exceptions. OTB for Horse racing is exempted, Tribal Gaming is exempted and a few others as well. What this amounts to is that (especially in WA State where the tribes have a stranglehold) we are being told it's ok to gamble - as long as we gamble where THEY tell us to. It's completely ridiculous and inconsistent. I worry that once they have "control" of the online, they are going to start going after the home games. There was already one arrest I read about and they came in and took all the money that was in the house - not just what might have been on the table at the tim

Home games would pop up like wild fires in California, people love poker and need to play it like taking drugs. Trust me true poker junkies will find a way to play!
