How did everyone first get involved in the game & what did you do to develop your poker playing strategy.  I know many people read books or other reference materials.  I personally just learned from playing online & watching other people play.  If you have read books to learn the game let us know if you found them helpful or not.

My first experience with poker was playing texas hold em with a few co workers. They took it easy on me since I had never played before. After that night I got hooked. I watched the tournments on tv and found sites that I could play online. I read some things, mostly at different websites, but I never bought a book or anything.

I learned to play as a kid by watching my father and a couple of his friends play.  They didn't mind a kid who stayed quiet at the table LOL.  In those days, they were playing stud rather than hold'em tho.

I learned to play from my dad as well. They had weekly poker nights and on the times that they came to our house I would watch. When I got older my dad let me sit in on a few hands and I have been playing ever since.

I learned from my dad, but he wasn't much of a gambler.  He just taught us how to play.  We also learned from playing Yahtzee.  It is pretty much the same thing only with dice.  I have also learned a lot by losing money on partypoker.

I learned because on a weekend with my dad when i was little the roads were snowed in and we had to stay up in the mountains another day.

Well, to play real cards there was only one other human: me. He taught me the rules but thought i didn't understand, because I got a straight five card draw nothing wild. The look on his face was hysterical.

I learned mostly from watching tournaments on tv.  I love to watch the world series of poker and the celebrity poker shows.  I play often on party poker.  It helped me to learn which hands beat other hands.

I first started playing draw poker when I was in my early teens. We used to play for change and cigarettes. I eventually started playing Texas Hold'em. I basically learned Texas Hold'em from reading and watching videos, playing online.

You just have to play a lot. Find the right site to play one ( so the site with the most fish on it:D ). Now I found the weakest site and I won last month 2k and got 1k rakeback. So it is just a manner of finding the right site and play until you are rich:D

I think it takes a bit more than just finding a site with a lot of fish and playing until you are rich

You do have to play a lot of hands, but reading poker books, tutorials, learning bankroll management and watching how the poker pros play to learn tips will go a long way to helping you play better poker.

I learned to play in High School from a friend. After winning a few home games I began to read up on the game and now play a lot online.... Mostly on Full tilt.

I had a friend tell me the basic of Texas Hold'em. It sounded interesting and he told me about how the World Series of Poker was currently on TV. So later I started watching it and it looked like fun.

GREAT Question!

I learned to play when I was very young....playing with my dad and my uncles and my brother....I played em all....except we hadn't heard of holdem' way back then....lots of 5 card stud, etc. and most names I can't even remember now...I've been playing holdem for last couple of years.
THAT'S POKER! .....
