I noticed this playing against a good friend of mine - the river was dealt and there was a pregnant pause as he picked up and examined his cards again. The layout of the cards was such that if he had a good hand he would have known.
He bluffed and I raised and won, and then srupidly pointed out the tell.
Funny man then purposely waited for an even bigger hand and did the same thing as double-bluff and knocked me out! Don't share your tells at the table ;)

I rarely find this to be a good tell. People seem to find it easier to work out the hands available visually. It may have been obvious in that case but I always look at my hand after every new card and often more frequently than that. Maybe I'm giving too much away but it looks to me like they do that on the TV tournament games too.

I guess you are right - it was the fact that I knew this particular person's manner of play and he acted differently that hand - probably not an "across the board" tell....

I don't know if I would be able to pull this off. But it's a good way to think about disguising my play further on. i have to work on that. |

I think there are a lot of people that look at the cards numerous times while playing. I get too into the game and forget my cards so I recheck them after each new card dealt on the table. So if someone tries to use this to decide my strategy, you are not getting anywhere. |

I think the strategy to looking at your cards after a card is turned is that you are trying to play it off like you may not have a very good hand. Your hand in fact could be really strong or at least good enough to stay in the pot. |

Yeah, I've heard the people saying in the series - are you really looking? You don't know what you got? And it's true, you should but I've played before and not looked and thought I had a flush when I didn't. Everyone gets tired once in awhile |

sometimes guys always look weather they have a good hand or not. The best way to read people is betting patterns. Like i stated before bluffing is all about setting up people for the trap just like what happend to rod |

Good advice on not sharing tells! I've seen people brag and do that, and then get nailed later on in the evening. It's another reason I don't like a lot of chit chat at the table. |

According to Caro's book the strength of the hand relates to the length of time that the player looks at their hole cards. If a player just glances down at their cards only long enough to determine what they have, then look away and guard their hand it is likely the card has helped them and they are strong. If they continue to stare at their cards it is usually an act and they are weak. |

You definitely don't want to tell your tells, especially if they are easy to spot. Some of the amateur poker players tend to repeat the same moves over and over when they have good hands or bad hands. Poker is poker and you play to win. You need all the information you can get and any advantage is always a plus. Don't throw your tells away! |

When I'm in a live game, I try to only look at my cards once after everybody is dealt there cards. With my poker buddies, I think this keeps them guessing whether I've got a good hand or not because I don't look at them. If some good cards come on the Flop and I start betting, even with bad cards, I can usually, take the pot before the River. |
