I've got the day off from work today, so when I am not working on PokerDIY functionality I sneaked a quick online game (shh).

Anyway - the poker rooms looked a little emptier than when I normally play online (occasionally at about 8 pm GMT).

It then got me thinking about the time difference and what time it would be in the States and other places around the world - so when is the optimal time to play poker? First thing in the morning when you are fresh and ready? Or wait until the it's late at night in some other timezone and catch the drunk players?   ;)

I suppose with the global online cyberworld there will usually be a selection of good, bad, drunk and sober players from all corners of the globe on a poker room at any one time.
    thanks,
    Rodney

For me since I usually busy in the day the only games I can get into are at night or early in the morning. I am a nightowl anyway so I have more fun playing late at night. I usually end up having the stereo going and playing a few hands.

I always play at night, but that is about the only time I get to play.  I have played in the day maybe twice and usually the people playing aren't from the USA.  It is harder to get into a game in the evening because the rooms are more packed.  I like playing at night before I hit the sack.

I would think at night there would be more people playing just because there would likely have more free time then. I've noticed some other online games have much less people playing during the day.

The only time I can make to catch a poker game is late at night after work, dinner is cooked and cleaned, and my daughter has gone to sleep.  I think playing in the daytime is boring.  I don't know why but it just feels more comfortable playing at night.

Too much is happening during the day for me to actually enjoy a game. It's usually late night games I have to play after the kids have gone to sleep.

I like to play when i have a finite amount of time to play with. like if I am waiting for a friend to get here or someone to call me back. That way i know it will be for a fixed amount of time not just endless.

I've learned a lesson about jumping online to play for a short time ...it just doesn't work for me.  I try to set aside an hour or so at the least because otherwise you just don't have time to study the other players and how they bet.

I tend to play in the evening while my DH is watching tv.  I do play during the day sometimes but it just depends on if I see a table at which I would like to play.  If there are not too many people playing I don't bother.  I like to play at a table with a full six players (sometimes I play at the nine player tables but I prefer six for some reason).

I'm creature of the night, and traditionally Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.

The worst day for me is Sundays, whatever the hour of the day or night.

One trick I've learned is that I jump on sometimes early in the morning ...east coast time ...I've found that you really get the night owls from the west coast and the betting is getting wild because they're punchy from lack of sleep.  I've made some good money recently with this lol.

I always prefer to play when I feel my game is going to be best. If you are a morning person, play in the morning. If it takes you a while to warm up in the day, save the play for later. Either way, I think it's more important to play when you feel you will bring your A Game to the table, instead of trying to play in the hope of catching a few drunk/tired Americans/Europeans (delete as appropriate :))

That is very good analysis about times for playing online poker and i shall not like to play with drunk or tired players because it is a game and i shall like to play with gamers just like me . I think daytime is the best time to play poker

In other words, everyone just finds the niche that works for them. I know I've decided to play at a different time of day and it rarely works out. Either I'm distracted for some reason here at home ...I'm sticking to my preferred times!
