I have played both real and fake money on online poker sites, but I feel like I get ripped off. It seems like I never get any good hands when I have my money on the line, but when I am just playing for fun I get great hands. Does anyone feel like you are getting screwed when you play with real money? Don't get me wrong I still have fun either way, but it is a high to play with real money. If I played too much with real money I think I could eventually end up in Gamblers Anonomous. |

I would defininitely be interested to see what dynamics bring this into play.
I think it would be funny to bet in medieveial money or roman money. South Africand rand. Dollars are boring. |

I play both ways, and I know I definitely play looser when it isn't real money. I'm quite cavalier about it actually, and have to rein myself back in when money is involved. I win more when it isn't real lol. |

I take way more risks if it is just play money. Since I figure I don't have anything to lose. I have found that I have won bigger hands like that. When it comes to real money I am always more reserved. I have never lost a lot simply because I know when I am digging a whole. I would rather play smarter and win. |

I think part of the reason I do so well on the fake money tables is because it is "fake money." I don't have to worry about losing anything. With the click of the mouse I am back to my stack I had started with. |

I play with fake money as I don't feel I have the experience of enough
online play to fee comfortable playing with real money. Maybe one day
I'll move to the money tables.

I play both, I usually win when we play fake and lose when I play real. Just the way the ball bounces I guess.

I have been playing a few real money hands lately and am up a few dollars. I tend to play pretty tight and not take too many chances when real money is on the line. I am a littel looser with fake money but I like to play as if it were money so I feel like I am learning more about the game. |

The worst thing is when you play with false money and get great hands, but after switching to real seems your luck is gone

I have always advised people to move from free play to real money play as soon as they have got used to the new software. If you dont want to risk alot of money then find a site with micro limits but playing free money all in banazas makes your poker skills worse.
If for some reason you must free play then play the sit&go's and freeroll tournaments because players at least play like there is something to lose |

there's huge difference betweek fake and real money.. why?
because people don't care about their play when it comes to fake money.. I mean why would you? if you lose.. who cares? but when it comes to real money, ofcourse you would care..
so I just play for very very micro stakes but real money if you want to practice your game, it won't help if you are a winning fake money player |

I really don't see much point to playing for play chips when it's possible to play freerolls and at least have the chance to win some actual cash with no risk. Even if people never graduate from freerolling, making a few cents per hour has got to beat nothing for the same amount of time expended. |

I find that when I play for free I win very easily, but when I play for real money, I can never get the cards...sometimes I think it's fixed! I know, I know I shouldn't say this, but that's how it seems to me most times. Therefore, I like to play more freerolls, as you say, no risk, have tons of fun and no out of pocket.
See you at the tables, and hey! Arjonius, glad to see you back on the forum....missed ya! |

[/QUOTE]perharps when you are playing for real money you are playing a lot tighter waiting to get the hands yet when you play the freerolls you push more and play a looser and more aggressive game because you know you have nothing to lose.try playing a few very low stakes games the way you play the freerolls to get into the habit of playing loose and aggressive with your own money. |

Thanks for the great advice Stewz...I will give it a try....but it seems that ALWAYS the cards I'm dealt in real games are terrible, across the board....that's what makes me suspicious...but I guess we all have times like that....that's poker! |

I have always thought that one should move from free play to real money play as soon as you are used to the environment.
if you don't want to put money into the system, play freerolls and start building a bankroll from there. playing with no stake is just not interesting ! |

There's no out of pocket risk to playing freerolls, but there can be an opportunity cost. It's not hard to advance your game to where your EV playing buyins is higher than playing freerolls. Once you reach that level, playing freerolls instead of buyins means you make less money. |
