I find I enjoy poker most when i can reach that point i call finding the relaxation and concentration balance. I like to watch other players but if i have too good a time then i take my eye off the ball. Although you see people drinking mixed drinks and chatting in movies I find the reality can be much more of a brinksmanship cookoff. But I often feel i have to leave my "comfort zone" to concentrate and win.

    Is there a viable balance?

It definitely is a balance.  But for me, the comfort zone is important ...if I get too far out of mine, then I tense up, worry too much, and what should be fun isn't.  I had a great session last night where my zone lasted for a couple of hours, and I not only won more than usual, but it was relaxed too.  Great combo! LOL.

That's why a home game is good. Relax with friends no aggro. I always have a friend who is trying to get a new person in our games. He really freaks me because every time he wants to bring a ew person. I wonder what he tells them. I can tell you the vibe in the poker game is way different when those guys are not present.

I find I am much more relaxed in a home game with friends. When a new person is playing, it takes a little while to adjust to the new dynamic. I enjoy when new people play our game. It just takes a little bit to get back into the groove.

If things get tense in a game of friendly play then ask the other players if you can put down the cards for a minute and really talk about what is going on. Don't ruin the game because nobody has the guts to ask what's wrong. if alcohol is being consumed, cut everyone off.

Alcohol always seems to aggrevate high tensions.  I usually have a drink in an attempt to chill me out, but I ultimately feel fuzzy and lost.

If you ask me a good beer and some pizza is always the thing for me. It helps me to relax in any game im playing. Nothing more or nothing less.
