Hi.  Name is Lynn.  I set up an account and so far so good...except, I used 'Tell A Friend' feature to let everyone in my group know they had to come here and sign up and then join my home game before I can send out an invite.  But I understand through Rod that there is an easier way to do this.  I originally posted my game as private but then people came to the site and couldn't find it.  I don't know what other way to invite external users.  Do they have to be users signed up here or can I email whomever I want, even if they have not joined?  Please advise and thanks for the email advising me where to post.  Lynn

Hello Lynn!

Ok - this is not as obvious as it could be, so I will work on some online guides or instructions to make this easier for new users (once you get the hang of it, like anything, it is easy).

Basically if you would like to keep your game private (which I think you do in your case), there are two steps to creating a private event/game/tournament.
You've completed step one (creating the event), and now you have to invite guests. Go to the "My Events" page and on the right hand side of your new event you will see this icon: Invite your Guests

This is the link to the Invitation Management screen, where you choose who is coming and can see RSVP's etc. When you get to this screen you will see some buttons for adding your guests. You can basically add PokerDIY members (which would not have helped you originally, but you can do this now that some have joined) or you can add external invites via email address. Either way, these users will then receive an email telling them the basic details and asking them to RSVP on PokerDIY. When they do this then you as the event host will receive notifcation. There are many more things you can do but I'll let you try that first before I tell you.

Oh yes, Groups; one of the options is to add invites by group. So if your friends/players had joined a group you had set up then you could just invite this group.

Another tip is to check how your event looks via email - after you have created it go to the Invitations screen and ensure only you (as the host) are selected. Click on "Send" and you will be sent an invite as your other guests will see it. You can then edit your event and repeat this until you are happy with it and then you can add your other guests and send the invites.

Let me know how you get on please...

Oh, by the way, I'm working on a new version of the "Tell A Friend" page that will allow you to enter multple names anyway so it will make that easier too ;)

I'm very keen on hearing any feedback you have Lynn - let me know!
thanks,
Rodney

Hi LuckyBluffy,

Check out the Games FAQ post entitled "What is the best way of publicizing/letting people know about a game I am hosting?" - it has some suggestions for free publicity for your game/club.

thanks,
Rodney

VERY frustrating. I now know that even though I set up a league game in the Scoreboard of our league in advance, if I want to send out an RSVP request to league members, I must set it up as an event also. (at least that appears to be the way).

And I STILL can't figure out how to send out an invitation to join my new group. I set it up so that I could use it instead sending out the 'invite' one by one. Yes, I see where you can add multiple email addresses to non-registered players, but when I tried, it didn't work! And just above the 'non-registered' area is one for DIY members, but it's not active! So in a private group setup, do I send emails to my members asking them to do a search for the group I set up? IF they find it, is there a 'request an invite to join' button? How do I add to my group ????

If I didn't like the other features, I'd switch to another site. Also very frustrating when the 'official' answer to questions on how to get the above accomplished is 'check the FAQs'. I've checked everywhere and the answers are either not detailed enough or the site's been changed and they no longer apply.

A GOOD explanation of the site really needs to be pinned so noobies don't have to hunt all over the place. If such a place exists then it's not where a noobie would look. I know that!

Hmm - sorry it is so frsutrating. Unfortunately I do not have much time to work on PokerDIY as I would like and correct these issues (it doesn't generate any profit, it's purely to help poker players).

I'm working on some upgrades that will make things easier - everything will be done through the PTM (PokerDIY Tourney Manager) - you will set up your game. leagues and players offline and after your tourney you can synch the games to your web scoreboard on PokerDIY.

I am aware of some issues at the moment...
thanks,
Rodney

I'm just frustrated because the site has so much potential. For now, I plan to just send out a group email on my own, post the list of those coming to the event in the comments section (along with sending out a private email to the members), and the results in the league results section (hopefully). As long as the results get posted and keep updated properly, I'm good. Not sure if they can see the results right now as I have it as 'private'. But I can either send that out as an email, or make it public, I suppose. Thanks, I'm sure you're frustrated too.
