Sometimes when we have game night one hand just goes on forever and takes way too long to end. I wish there was a way to just fast forward through it or something to speed it up. I'm thinking of installing timers and when it's your turn you have only so long to make a decision.

That is a good idea.  Just like online, they give you like 20 seconds.  The thing with doing it at home, though would get bad since you would have to keep reseting a timer over and over.  But, if you could figure out a way that was more automatic, then go for it.

Is twenty seconds enough?  I'd hate to make the other players mad if it weren't enough time.

I think it would be long enough for me. I like to go with my gut feeling. The longer it takes to make a decision, the more my mind tries to talk me out of going with my first instinct.

Hmm - this is one good reason to use a blinds timer instead of the number of hands.... every second counts and the blinds start going up if you dawdle...
    thanks,

That's a great point, one which I'm slowly learning.  I started noticing how long it would take my husband and in reality, it was usually way under twenty seconds.

I play a lot online and I won't sit at a table that more than 15 for timers.  I find it unbelivable that people will take the full allotted time to place a bet on their dealt hand.  How long can it take to look at two cards?????

Yeah, we set a timer to control the blinds. The game won't last too long that way because when it gets to the end, people just end up getting blinded out. Raise the blinds faster if you want a shorter game.

I liek shorter blinds so we can get more then a few games in . MOst people rather play 5-6 short tournaments rather then one long one.

If you want a longer game start with a ton of chips and long blinds If you want a shorter game go with less chips and shorter rounds

Good tips.  Don't you love it when you sit down at an online table which has a great rhythmn?  It doesn't happen all that often but when it does, you really enjoy it!

You should have a timer and if any player calls for the clock, the acting player should have 30 - 60 seconds to act of his hand is folded  Since we started using one, the game has picked up.
