We start out doing good with a regular night for gaming which usually last a few weeks. Then slowly but surely we have one person not show up, then it's two. Before you know it, no one is coming. Eventually we get back around to starting the cycle over. It would be great to learn of a way to keep the interest there for more than a few week at a time.

Hmm - I think this is why it is important to have a big pool of people. We have a League which consists of 15 players or so, but every 2 weeks we play a 6 player, single table game (you can see it on the home page calendar out of interest). This means that we rarely battle to find our 6 players.

Every couple of months we open up the league and let someone knew join (we play amongst good friends for fun). This keeps it interesting...
    thanks,

Good friends, good fun, and food.  We may not have a full room every week, but we always have a great game.  The least that we've been down to is four - still a good group!

To keep the game lively and active, I think you have to have a reliable group of people.  If you have a group, then losing one or two won't hurt the mometo of the game.  Also great food and lots of laughter will keep them comming back week after week.

A reliable group of people and no whiners who lose and end up ruining the night for everyone else with their never ending whinging!  Take it like a man or don't play! LOL.

Don't focus on playing one game, play all of them, Texas Hold 'Em, Draws, Studs, anything but keep mixing it up.

You could always assign everyone to bring something and have a different "head of the game" every week, taking turns for who is host regardless of the location.

This is indeed a good principle, because you can do whatever you can to keep a poker night interesting, but without the right people you efforts can be worthless, I'm afraid.

Well, if you're playing with just friends, keep in touch with them! Don't just let them slip away without a friendly "how ya doing? We missed you at the last game."

Try awarding points through the year based on finish.  Then play a freeroll at the end of the year with chips = final points earned through year.
