It's against etiquette leave the poker table intentionally in your turn to pay your blind, however many people use such tactic to compensate or avoid a disadvantageous betting situation.

What are your thoughts about this maneuver?

I think that any deception at the poker table isn't right. If they do it a lot, I would mention gently to them that they might decide to do things a little differently.

Where I play most often, the game will not allow you to easily leave during a hand. It makes you wait until the hand is over, or lose your ante automatically. I think that works out well for discouraging the situation you describe.

I think it's a good solution to lose your ante if you leave during a game.  If it's online, there are usually options for folding out of turn if you need to go do something ...but you lose your ante and that's fair to me.

If you get up on your big blind you get a miss the big blind button. When you come back to the table you have to post all missed blinds. IF you miss three rounds around the table they pick you up from the game. If people do it every time you can simply make them wait to come back in the game when they are gona be big blind again.

Any system without a penalty for leaving will be exploited by those with bad hands. Losing the blind at least is a reason to hang in there.

Good point, and maybe this is the reason why most cheaters populate where such systems are available.

I guess the numbers of cheaters nowadays multiplied because of a weak system. What do you think is the best thing to do to solve such problem? Any idea in mind?

It's hard to figure out how to penalize people who bail out when it's online poker. I've heard them say they got disconnected in order to not get into trouble with the other players, and sometimes I think it's true but certainly not always!

Right. If your connection is that bad, you shouldn't play. I think a penalty is necessary - but not so severe that an occasional disconnect from a player will hurt them badly.

I remember old times when playing over dial-up connection caused such disconnection problems causing a mess in the middle of a poker hand. In fact there are many people still playing this way.

Thankfully, it's getting to be less and less thanks to broadband, but you're right. In my old house, dial up was the only way to get online but I got a designated line and that helped with the disconnects.

We're now in an age, though, that most people are not going to be playing on dialup services (at least in the US), so I don't think that should be a consideration.

Oh, you'd be surprised at the number of people still on dial up. In rural areas, the phone lines haven't been updated and there isn't cable. Internet connection via satellite is still a little dicey for gaming because of the lag time.

Still, do you see a real alternate to prevent abuse? If people aren't responsible for leaving games, they can just leave when they start to lose and work the system.

I think that's one of the pitfalls of online play. There will always be people who work the system ...
in the days of the old West, they'd end up shot!

I think it is bad when players get up right before there blinds.  I think you shouldnt be able to do that, people want to play every other hand but when its time to post a blind opps need to go do something.  I have seen may players do this in the casino and do not think it is right.

yeah i agree...i think that if you want to play...you should be there the whole time...its not fair if you just sit out and leave and miss blinds....but people do it anyway...not much you can do about it   good topic though =]

Blinds are apart of poker.  Anyone willing to steal blinds, but not play them should be banned from online poker and live card rooms.  I often like to play from the blinds depending on the level of play at the table.  Sure it may be a little disadvantageous, but a lot of deceptive play can result if you hit a trash hand or the nuts from that position.  Even if you have to fold those 2 hands, you'll have position on your side once those hands are over anyway, so don't moan and whine; play to win.
