I have seen many old-fashioned timers when playing a poker tournament, more likely similar to kitchen timers, but recently I'm realizin that many people is opting for gambling-related designs

Have you noticed this trend?

I haven't played a tournament, but it seems to me a chess-style timer would work just as well as (or better than) a kitchen timer.

Yeah, looks like definitely best on a comparative basis, and more reliable as well.

Last time I saw a digital timer with the form of a poker chip, resembling more a common clock

It looks like there are 2 electronic dedicated poker tournament timers that keep track of structures, time per level, prize pools, etc.

The Poker Genie, a potentially wall mountable, plug in timer and

The Poker Ace PTD, a battery operated timer that sits on the table.

You can read reviews of these products at http://www.homepokertourney.com/clo...review.htm

Poker timers make the game move much cleaner and since everyone has a computer the softwear times make running a game really easy.  I use Poker Tournament Manager.  It is by far the best, but you do have to buy it.

Having used many different timers, thepoker genie always cam up trumps but the main problem was it was mains connected, then this little gem came along that is battery powered and i haven't looked back, not only a timer but also sorts out the blinds/rebuys/add ons/prize pool, what more coudl you ask for
