    I think the best tactic is to play extremely tight at the beginning, only challenging the crazy all'inners with things like QQ, KK or AA. Hopefully you will double up (or better, since people love to enter pots) once or twice and will have enough chips to continue your tight play while paying the blinds.

    But at some point you need to change gears and switch to being loose, else your stack will shrink in comparison to those who do and you'll likely find yourself fighting just to make the money.

    Yes for me it is KK.

    When I have KK there is always an ace in the flop :(

    If we think like that we may say that no hand it`s a sure winner...and it depends for the situation...You may lose with AA against 22 is a 2 appears down..so..this is poker..:)) not only strategies but luck too

    Although I don't remember ever winning a tournament with more than 1,000 entrants, I've managed to get deep a fair percentage of the time.  There's no single secret to success, but I usually find it helpful to focus my attention on my table until making the money is a reasonable prospect.  There's little if anything to be gained from knowing whether you're 514th or 355th or even first when there are 750 players left and only 100 get paid.  All you can do is try to win the chips that are at your table.

    I used sometimes this tactic u talk about, but the problem is that a lot of times u can loose with AA, KK or QQ against weird hands like 87 or 52, the opponent hitting straight or flush with 4 community cards. It happened to me a lot. That is because freerolls are sometimes wild, people keep thinking that since there is no buy-in u can call with any cards.

    and i got 2nd :) and won $12 .
    in he beginning i indeed played very tight and doubled up a few times
    but i say to everyone that you should NEVER bluff in the beginning, they moestly call becouse they wanna gamble

    i have a little problem im great starter in a freeroll,but dont ask me to finish off. i usually get knocked out just before the money starts.i make up a stack quite easily but then i start playing tight and the blinds seems to get up to pace with me and its all downhill from there.

    I think that you must carefully choose the hands to play , play only on late position on the table (better as a dealer);
    but I think that luck is really important

    As you said Danlanghi luck counts the most in these kind of freerolls...I would never play in freerolls at sites like CrazyPoker because the number of players is too big..I like to play in private freerolls where the number of players doesn`t go too far..as 100 ...:P the poker diy freerolls are the best..

    a very good way to win and get in the lead, is to stand in a sit out possition for 20-30 minutes, then all the poor players have lost and players that plays poker ,as poker, will be there, and the skills will be the final touch. one of the best way of winning free roll with over 1000.

    I totally agree with you Frankiboy ...it`s a nice strategy..but wouldn`t be nicer to win a little first..one hand or so..and after that sit`out..that`s how many players proceed..isn`t it so?:)) I saw this many times...but it would be a nice idea..but I think that after you get out from sit`out..luck counts very much..because the blinds are bigger and your stack is small

    In the begin blinds are low you can limp alot, later on you need either a big stack or good cards.
    And if you have both good cards and big stack you can win ;)
