The WSOP Main Event - 2008 World Series of Poker World Championship No-Limit Texas Hold'em (Event 54) (But-In: $10,000)

This is the big event that gets all the attention. Even celebrities show up to play in it.

It got under way Thursday and Day 1 is split into 4 days.

The final Day of Day 1 is today and more big names are gone...Andy Bloch, David WIlliams, Annie Duke to name a few.

Phil Hellmuth made a fool of himself as he arrived dressed as an Army General in a convoy of military vehicles.

The word is that they surpassed last year's total number of entrants.

Tons of poker pros are out of the main event after the day 1 heats.

Today was a day off for the main event.

Tomorrow will be Day 2a where the remaining players from Day 1a and 1b will play.

Wednesday the players remaining from Day 1c and 1d will play.

So there were 6,844 players who entered the 2008 WSOP Main Event and out of those, 666 will make it into the money.

When Day 2a started today there were 3928 players that remained from Day 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d.  The 1,252 players that played today were the ones that survived to the end of Day 1a and 1b. Tomorrow ,on Day 2b,  the remaining 2,676 players that made it through from Day 1c and 1d will play.

There are approx 1760 players remaining out of the 6844 entered. The remaining players from Day 2a and today's DAy 2b will combine and play tomorrow in Day 3.

This is the final day of the 2008 Main Event for the summer. There are currently 10 players left and 1 more will be eliminated before the main event is put on hold until November.

Dennis Phillips is a 53 year old commercial account manager from Cottage Hills, Illinois. He entered the main event after winning a satellite held at Harrah’s Casino in St. Louis. He will be the starting chip leader when the final table starts on November 9.

Ivan Demidov is a 27 year old semi-professional poker player from Moscow, Russia. He has only been playing poker for two years and bought into the Main event directly with $10,000 cash.

Scott Montgomery is a 26 year old professional poker player from Perth, Ontario, Canada. He was a former English teacher in Japan until he discovered online poker and has been playing poker for a living since.

Peter Eastgate is a 22 year old professional poker player from Isser, Denmark. He plays middle and high stakes poker for a living and has won several tournaments in Europe.

Ylon Schwartz is a poker player from Brooklyn, New York.He has over $250,000 in live tournament earnings and also excels at chess.

Darus Suharto is a 39 year old accountant from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He won his main event seat through a $650 Pokerstars online qualifier.

David “Chino” Rheem is a 28 year old professional poker player from Los Angeles, California. This would mark his second final table at this series, having finished 5th in the $5,000 Mixed Holdem event in June.

Craig Marquis is a 23 year old college student from Arlington, Texas. He is considered to be the least experienced player of the final nine, with less than two years of poker playing under his belt. However, he does play some big cash games online under the poker screen name: CraigMarq

Kelly Kim is a 31 year old professional poker player from Whittier, California. He was a former business analyst, but quit when he became good enough to play poker full time. He will start off the final table as the shortstack, but don’t count him out just yet.

I don't know any of the final nine, but I'll put in my EARLY patriotic prediction and say one of the Canadians will win the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

I have no clue about all the players so that'll be my pick ;-)

There is not much excitement for the final table it seems. Since the final table was decided back in July I haven't heard much of anything about it. I know there are still a little over 3 months of waiting to do and perhaps in the week or two leading up to it it'll get more hype, but right now it seems no one cares.
