With the Ultimate Bet cheating scandal and talk on poker forums about Poker Bots, I figure this article would be interesting to some...

Human pride took a hit 11 years ago when IBM’s Deep Blue computer beat world chess champion Garry Kasparov. Now it’s poker players’ turn to be humiliated by a machine.

A computer system called Polaris outperformed some of the world’s top players last weekend at a human-vs.-machine competition in Las Vegas.

The score was computer 3, humans 2, with one draw.

I love reading about this kind of thing - it's quite scary thinking that in 5 years time there's gonna be bots all over the place on poker rooms taking our money...

    thanks,
    Rodney

PokerStars has already implemented a security type feature that pops up and players have to enter the letters/numbers. Similar to spam prevention capcha code that you enter on some blogs or to register at some forums. As technology gets better, those that try to cheat the system get better at using that technology. Poker rooms have to fight to keep up.

But it was in Holdem LIMIT, a variant where the bluff is easier to control for the machine.

Yeah, true Limit Hold'em would be easier for the computer, but it's only a matter of time before computers can play all forms of poker well.
