Do any of you play poker without betting money?

Why are so many people connecting this game to monetary gain or loss?

Do any of you just play it for fun?

I use to do this alot but I don't anymore. It isn't as much fun to me to play for free. I think a lot of the excitement is having something on the line.

That is what worries me a little :)

I don't really like betting of any kind, and I wanted to find out if ALL poker players bet when they play.

Nah, you have to play for money.  I've played for nothing or for just $1 or $2 per hand.  You end up with people who don't play seriously and call the most ridiculos hands.  When the stakes are high people don't mess around and, as a result, the poker is much better.  I guess it depends on what kind of game you want to have.  But for the most part, playing for nothing is just irritating!

Most or if not all my games are for money.  Even the freerolls, thou you  dont buy into them you are still playing for something.  Kinguk has a good point, on the level of play.  If I'm playing a poker game for "play money"  I really cant get my self into the game, and the way most of the players are calling hands i do not believe they are.

With money, even baby stakes you have something in the game that you can loose.  With that, there is a rush you feel when taking down a big hand, making a bluff that pays off, or just getting that tingle when you look down at your 2 hole cards and know your going to enter this hand.

Yep, i am agree with you.

The poker without stake has no sense: a player who go all in with 7/2 during a freeroll is a 'donk' but a player who go all in with 7/2 at the button position  during a WSOP table final,  is a 'great player' . (in the first case it's a lotterry and in the second it's a great bluff  ).

By the way, it's interessing to see the difference of level between the freerolls which required raked hands and the others freerolls.
