Does anyone have any stats or something on the number of online poker players for sites like poker stars or full tilt? I talked to a guy who said poker is dying and it's not going to be profitable to play it in 5+ years from now. Is there any truth to this statement?

i'm a bit of a late bloomer and i'm personally finding the game exhilerating and i'm having a lot of fun learning about strategy/hand theory/etc. but it's kind of disheartening to hear from someone  a lot of poker to say that it's dying.

Also sorry for two threads in one day, just had to get this one off my chest

I don't think it will ever die. It's just the problems with DoJ closing down poker sites, but once the new Bill is passed in US legislature, things should break wide open! For obvious reasons, a lot of people are afraid to make deposits ...look at FullTilt, just lost their license in UK and will lose another license shortly. No one is able to cashout NOW! just terrible!

Enjoy your games! and Best of luck at the river...

    It has declined.

New players are better versed in the game now. And there are fewer new players. As a result the competition is stiffer!

It is much harder to win now than it used to be.
