Who?
What?
Thanks for contacting me regarding the poker coaching group. Sorry if it took forever to get back to you all but it took a while to get a few people interested.
Do you want to bring your Hold’em skills to the next level? I am looking to put together an experienced group of Poker players for a self taught coaching group. This will be at a fairly advanced level. Players should already understand pot odds, position, different types of play and players. There is no charge or fees to be in the group.
This group is not for those that want to learn the game but master it from an already advanced level. Members should already be a student of the game and well versed and read on Hold’em skills and strategy. At some point we might branch out to different poker games but Hold’em cash and tournament will be the focus. We will not be gambling in this group and this is not a home game. The members and participants need to have the following:
• A calm demeanor and respect of other members.
• If your game is overly aggressive it must not be your personality and your aggressive play has to serve a logical constructive purpose other than throwing your chips around needlessly or as a power trip.
• You will be expected to observe and share your observations of other member’s play and actions in a truthful, friendly and constructive manner.
• During the group’s hand play you will often be showing your hands after play and explaining your actions and why to the group as this critique will be an important part of improving.
• You should be someone that is generally thought of as smart or intelligent by your friends, family and peers. If Donkey, Calling Station, Dead Money, Fish, Idiot and other such terms are often used to describe your play or these insults are frequently hurled at you (especially when penniless or once felted, or you don’t know what these mean) this group is not for you.
• Information on other players is for internal group use. What this means if that if you are playing at Foxwoods and see someone from the group at the table you don’t tell your buddy that if you three bet the guy will fold.
• If you do not already know what a three bet is then this group will be above your current level.
With this said we do want different types of players that want to have fun and get better in the game. We will learn from each other’s strengths and weaknesses in a non-threatening and friendly manner.
It is not known at this point when or where we will meet on a regular basis but the plan at this point is the following:
Meet at least once a week at a permanent or rotating location in the South Eastern Massachusetts area. Canton to Attleboro north to south, Bridgewater to Franklin East to West. You should be willing to travel about a half hour each way.
We will start after screening potential members by meeting at Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun to play a bit to get an idea of the skill levels. This might be lunch or dinner followed by a Sit and Go or cash table.
Based on this and the player’s level of commitment, interest, and acceptable personality we will work on something regular with the core group that match up best.
I don’t know if we are talking about a few “poker buddies” or 10-15 people. I’m hoping for something in between like 5-7 people.
To start things off please give me some information about yourself, your skill level and where you are in your poker life.
I am in my late 40’s. Live in the Mansfield area, at least weekly at one of the Connecticut casinos in lower NL Cash and Tournaments. Go to Vegas and AC about 4 times a year. I am a consultant with college degree. Have been playing around eight years.
I have formally taken most all of the WPT Boot Camp and WSOP Academy Courses, Avid reader of Poker Books.
Strengths are instincts, player reading skills, fundamentals. Things to work on are my reading of other player’s hands, timing, and advanced poker math.
Please only reply if you are serious and are ready to start now. I will need a way to reach you and a little about who you are and where you are in the poker world similar to what I given you.
