I have had a few other folks express an interest so we may hit 15 players. I would like to get at least that many, but more is always great. So up to this point the pot is $2475...if we get to 15 players we can get $3375 and comfortably send two players with travel money and have a V.A. tourney at the end of the season for the rest of us with a good size bonus. | | Send Message | |
| | | | So Mark, Congrats! -- Next week will be the 6th event and the deadline to join the league to play for the WSOP seat. It may seem like Mark is way ahead for the moment, but it is still way too early to call anything. I have played all five events and am in last place for those that have played 5 events (use the button next to Best 15 Results, it's a scoreboard filter) but I have about 12 points. If Mark's luck finally runs out and he gets bounced early in the next game and I happen to place or win I would still be behind him but I would have about 24 points and easily in position to take the lead. All I am saying is.... it's is still anybody's game, so let's get some money in the pot and send 2 people down to the WSOP..
I will send an email this week that shows who has bought in already and how much money is in the pot......

I see only one error and that is for 2/28/2011, it should read 2/25/2010.... and the one for 11/26/2010 isn't wrong but since it would be thanksgiving weekend it should probably be moved back to 11/19/2010.....otherwise the dates are set to rotate to a different set of weekends over the course of the season and to work around holidays (except, apparently for that one). | | | | On a similar note, there was a strong debate about whether we should have a re-buy event (basically the Patterson Games) since there are no re-buy events at the WSOP. If we have all the events be freezouts then we will be training ourselves for the type of events we will be playing. That side of the argument seems reasonable enough. The other side is that while we are accruing points for the league this is still the social poker night for us and we have had that structure for 3 years now in Patterson. The scoring formula discounts the first re-buy so that the individual that has to re-buy once is only slightly effective. Repeat re-buys effect a players score fairly significantly. And a player would still have to play well after the re-buy period to really place so the skill would still be evident. The way the formula works anytime someone re-buys it increases the prize pool and everyone's score goes up. | | | | So after some strong debate over the scoring formula and a little more analyzing of the database of games we have decided that accruing points for hits (knocking someone out of the tourney) can have an influence on overall score over the length of a season. Since we get an award for the knowckout (the bounty) the points are redundant. Also, there is a solid argument that knocking out someone in the tournament is a lot more about lucky timing than it is about poker skill. While a skilled poker player may look for an opportunity to knock a player out of the tourney, most times players simply wait for players to get knocked out by waiting on the short stacks. Therefore, we have removed that part of the formula So you will see a slight change to the points of the top 5 or six players in this game but they will be consistent throughout the season. | | Send Message | |

Also, I will be entering Events here for each up coming game at the beginning of each week there is a game so that you can use the RSVP mechanism.
