From Wall Street to 5th Street

Alan Goehring only started playing poker professionally at the age of 37 and claims that he plays poker for fun, not money.

The poker world took notice when Alan Goehring finished 3rd in the $3000 NL Hold’Em event at the 1997 World Series of Poker and took home $61,845 for his efforts. He followed that by finishing 2nd in the $10,000 No Limit Hold-Em Main Event of the 1999 WSOP cashing in $768,625.

Goehring started gaining a reputation for being the player who "could not win the big one" as he took several other 2nd place finishes. Eventually in 2003 he won first place in the $25,000 World Poker Tour No-Limit Hold'em Championship event of the Bellagio Five-Star World Poker Classic in Las Vegas. It was Goehring's first major tournament win and he took home the $1,011,886 grand prize. His next 1st place finish would come at the LA Poker Classic - WPT Event Season 4 - WPT No Limit Hold'em Championship on Feb 21, 2006 winning his largest total todate $2,391,550
