Paul "The Truth" Darden
Paul "The Truth" Darden Jr. was born on October 27, 1968 and was introduced to the game of poker at an early age. Paul's father owned a small poker club and taught him to play. Darden was montored by poker pro Phil Ivey, and now Darden has been a mentor of poker player Amnon Filippi.
Darden was best known as a seven-card stud player and had several notable tournament finishes in 2000 prior to winning the World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet in 2001 for the $2,500 seven-card stud event, when he defeated Tom Franklin heads-up.
Darden won a World Poker Tour (WPT) title in the £3,000 main event of the Gold Rush tournament in 2002. He would later finish in 2nd place in the WPT Bad Boys of Poker invitational event behind Gus Hansen. Paul made his first money finish in the $10,000 WSOP main event, finishing in 45th place in 2003. Then in March 2005 he finished 5th in the $10,000 main event of the PartyPoker.com Million IV cruise.
"My strength is to try to play my opponent's hand, not mine," Darden says, "because I have my cards, my cards are easy to play. I try to put myself in their hand and play at me."
