Kathy Liebert
Kathleen H. Liebert was born on October 1, 1967 in Nashville, Tennessee and grew up on Long Island in New York. Kathy earned a bachelors degree in business and finance when she attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie. She was hired by Dun & Bradstreet, but wasn't happy with corporate life, and she left.
Kathy began playing poker as a prop player, which is a player who gets paid by casinos to start poker games or keep them going.
Kathy became the first woman to win a $1 million prize when she won the first Party Poker Million event in 2002. Liebert has made several final tables of the World Poker Tour (WPT), including a third place finish in the 2005 Borgata Poker Open.
Kathy Liebert won a gold bracelet in a $1,500 limit Texas hold 'em Shootout event at the 2004 World Series of Poker and joined Cyndy Violette and Annie Duke as the only three women to win an open event in that year's WSOP. Kathy also appeared on and won the series Poker Royale: Battle of the Sexes. Kathy has one World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet and she has won more prize money in open field tournaments than any other woman in poker history.
"It's not a game of strength; it's a game of intelligence," Kathy said when interviewed for BodogNation. "And a lot of it has to do with patience and discipline, as well as memory, and so I would say that women have all of the skills and in some cases even more of the skills than men in terms of being successful poker players."
Even though Kathy has made a career out of being a professional poker player, she still uses her financial smarts to invest in stocks.
