Hi I have just started a poker rankings website and am looking for tips to improve traffic as always :)
It's tough out there for us Noob's
My google rankings are getting better google search for 2007 poker rankings and I'm page 1 for over 3 million results not bad I guess
The website has been online for just about 3 months now http://www.hotshotsofpoker.com
But always looking for tips and advice you can never have enough.

Hi,

It's a good looking site, but yes, at the core of any site are the users, no matter how good looking (for example, you can buy a MySpace clone for $5 but it's not going to be successful - you need the users.

I noticed you don't have a forum? This is a great way of improving a site's stickiness and increasing regular traffic. The hard part is getting people to post on it of course!

thanks,
Rodney

Thanks for the tip Rod

1st tip I'm learning here is your the second person to tell me I have no forum. Unfortunately I do have a forum forum.hotshotsofpoker.com

available from the main menu on the site. Now I'm thinking maybe moving the link to a more prominent position on the top menu.

The forum is not yet bridged as this is above my technical prowess but I am working towards it though not yet stable enough to go live.

Many thanks for taking the time to look

Cheers

Kev

Hi Kev,

Was that "Forum" link always on the top next to WSOP? If so, I missed it, if not, MUCH better!

I am working on a completely new skin for PokerDIY - I have been told PokerDIY is very badly designed and hard to navigate (I love honest, harsh critism ;)

Check test.pokerDIY.com if you want to see the new skin (don't want it indexed so I am not putting the link in)

thanks,
Rodney

No the forum link was down the left and now on top and worked as you found it.

The test site looks great Rod but to be fair I wouldn't be your best critic as I think your current site is great too and easily navigatable but I'm used to website navigation. You don't have the link advertising section middle right I see, will this be a feature still?

I'm trying to strip out all non-essential info on the homepage to not distact new visitors so I can convert them to users. I felt that external links might draw them away but I may introduce them later as they were good money earners. I hope to go live with the new skin in thenext 3 weeks... the biggest change is that the Calendar and other info is no longer on the homepage, but all this info can be found on other pages.

thanks,
Rodney
